Question

How do you know how much callous tissue to shave down without causing discomfort?

Answer

It is important when reducing a callous to not do so all at once. Callous has been produced to protect an area of foot and is usually the result of pressure. If the callous is reduced totally, the tissue below is soft and thin. This causes a great deal of discomfort if the pressure still exists.

Always leave a thin layer of layer of callous as protection. Encourage the client to use creams to soften the callous and prevent it from building up.

Remember callous will continue to occur if the pressure causing it remains.
